Family Photographer | Fall is a portrait photographer’s busiest season because everyone starts thinking about getting a fabulous picture for the front of their Christmas cards. The weather outdoors is beautiful, nice temperatures and fall colors depending where you live. Here in Colorado there is no shortage of beautiful landscapes as a backdrop, even I love a good image taken at Chautauqua Park! So why choose an in-home storytelling session over an outdoor one? Everyday memories are worth preserving.
Well technically this session didn’t take place in Boulder. Last month I hopped on a plane and flew to Houston to shoot a day in the life photography session of this awesome, never still for a single second, family. I seriously do not know how they do it and since my visit they have added a new dog to the mix. I just love them.
As I sat down to edit I loved all the real moments I captured. Mom makes some pretty funny faces and the boys were a real treat to watch. Brotherly love (and squabbling) is beautiful and probably my favorite images of the entire day. Zane wanted to show off his new blue shoes, we spent the morning counting hummingbirds, and well mom learned never to say ‘never’. Did I mention there are donuts? Fried pickles? These are the memories I want to preserve for you. Let’s document the love and laughter in your family. So this is what a day in the life in the K Family Household looks like. 14 hours of chaos 🙂 Short Story sessions are pretty similar and we still get the essence of your family!
Day in the Life | Documentary Family Photographer
On a personal note Chloe and I snuggled up on the recliner last night, I cannot even remember the last time we did that, but she was telling me all about her plans for us today. Those are the moments I love and wish I could share with her a few years. I do A Year in the Life of Chloe every year and we had our own in-home family session in April. Chloe watches both of them every few months and giggles. Each time she points out something new in them, but now at the end of last year’s slideshow she cries along with herself on the screen. I might need to edit that video clip out as it makes her pretty emotional now.
It’s funny, nearly every slideshow I send to a family with small children the first thing mom says in an email reply is “the kids won’t stop watching it”. All of this to say, you do a storytelling session for your children and your future grandchildren. So that when the memories of childhood fade they have these preserved memories to share. So that when they watch your slideshow or flip through your album you get to see all the giggles, smiles, and sometimes tears that come along with it. A fellow photographer posted this sentiment on Facebook and her blog a few weeks ago and I couldn’t help feeling how true that is.
