This morning a video of Chloe counting popped up and she skipped from 6 to 13 for awhile, I forgot how adorable that was. It was just a crappy iPhone video, but makes me cry just the same. Do you have videos of your kids on your phone like that? TIP – please back these up somewhere in case something happens to your phone. What if you had pictures or video (professional or your own) of your child as they came into the world, shortly after, or when siblings met for the first time? How often would you look at them?
I began writing this blog post early last month. Going back and forth on language, because I am trying to get my point across without making it a sales pitch. Well this morning I woke up to a perfect message in my inbox so I think I am done trying to perfect MY language. I will just share what others’ say because subtlety is just not my thing. Your pictures and videos only get more valuable over time, regardless who takes them. While there is some immediate gratification right after you take an awesome image yourself or get images back from a professional photography session, the real value comes when you are feeling particularly nostalgic and you get to relive that moment all over again.
“Florence is freaking out because she wants to just watch the videos over and over again. lol! So good!“
I woke up to this message last month nearly two years after I photographed this family’s Day in the Life. Their morning video popped up on Facebook’s On This Day, which might just be the best thing ever. I love seeing old memories pop up in my feed. I decided to create a new mini-film to put on Instagram, which is limited to 60 seconds, with just a few of the things I captured that this 2-year-old did. If you are curious and want to see their entire day, grab some popcorn 🙂
“If you happen to stumble upon Colie James photography, you’re in luck! She is by far one of the most talented photographers I have ever witnessed with family photography! I have used many, many family photographers and have always been left disappointed. Several years ago I I made one more attempt at booking family photographer for the birth of my third child’s birth! I was extremely apprehensive to have a photographer come to the hospital especially right after her birth and having older siblings involved, yikes! But let me tell you Colie came in and with that session it change my entire view on family photography. No more trying to get everyone to look at the camera no more perfect clothes! It was fun it was easy and I couldn’t wait to get my pictures back! I decided to do a video along with my photo package and I can’t describe to you the tears that it brought along with it for everyone! It is truly a Priceless gift that you can give to your family and share with your children. Since the birth of my daughter I have used Colie at numerous family events birthday parties and every Christmas! I can’t imagine my life without Colie capturing our beautiful family moments. If you are considering using Colie for your family photography, consider no more, book her today, and be thankful tomorrow you did!”
Want to see what all the fuss is about? Click below to see a compilation film from three different Christmases. It might not be THE cure for nostalgia, but it is certainly something you will never regret passing along to your children.
So do yourself a favor and allow yourself some time in the next day, week, or month to look through your photographs and videos. IF it has been a while since you printed an album or hung a picture on a wall, your homework is to do that immediately. Because one of the things the two clients I have quoted in this post have in common, besides having me for their photographer, is they PRINT their images and have them hanging so they can enjoy them every day.
