Okay so you may have seen on Instagram, I bought a Fuji X-H1 on day 1 they were available, but then didn’t get a lens (18mm f/2) until 2 days later. I haven’t had the chance to use it in a client session, or make any personal films in the last week because things have been crazy, but I am in love. So in love I just sold my Sigma 35 Art and I am preparing to sell almost all of my remaining Nikon gear.  I have lost my damn mind.

 

But why Colie, WHY?

1. This body is so small and light but has a good grip.  I am getting old so the weight matters.
2. I love EVF, LOVE.  Period.
3. It has a touchscreen and I am looking forward to really using this when I make films.
4. It has in-body stabilization.  Just wait until I chase a kid down a hallway O.o

But WAIT, didn’t you want a Nikon D850? In short, yes, but with this Fuji XH1 I am getting the things I wanted out of the Nikon D850 in a smaller footprint.

• Flip screen- well it is touch, but it does NOT give me the 90 degree angle that the D750 and D850 do.  I am just going to live with the tilt it does give and get a little higher for my crib shots.  I can do it, right?
• 4k- it has 4k video so I am taken care of IF I want to shoot it.
• It has a dial for everything and no worries on changing the QUALITY of the picture when trying to change the ISO.
• It is a smaller body but still has a decent grip.  It seems cofortable to hold but let’s see how I feel after my next full Day in the Life.
• I am still testing the low-light image quality but I think it has potential to be as good as my D750
• And I get to keep some of the amazing things in my x100F like shooting video from the amazing app

 

And this is when I was testing the video out.  I did not have in-camera stabilization activated, oops. I used the Eterna Cinema preset and it has no additional stabilization or color grading added in Premiere Pro.  Audio is from the internal mic and I didn’t check the levels before I started. Mostly I am sharing because is she trying to tell me she doesn’t believe in Santa anymore????  Not my baby.

I will be using the Fuji XH1 on a few clients next week so then I will be able to give an actual real-world use review of the camera and its capabilities.  I need to get some new memory cards and perhaps one more lens before then 😉
