I am finally in the “slow” season. I photographed my last family client session on December 26th and my first family client of 2020 on January 4th, so I pretty much worked through the new year. Don’t get me wrong, I took plenty of time off to spend with my family because James had the same full two weeks off that Chloe did. We got a Nintendo Switch for our family gift and we have been playing plenty. What the slow season means for me is a break from actual sessions in order to catch up and deliver all of my remaining 2019 sessions + work on building out my businesses for 2020.
BUT what I want to talk about here is the new educational website I launched for photographers: Documenting Parenthood. Over the life of my photography career, I have had a few educational brands, but none of them really seem to align with the direction I am going with Colie James Photography. I announced back in October that I was going to offer an in-person workshop for 2020, but then I didn’t actually open the registration. I was really struggling with which of my brands to launch it under, what to call it, just a lot of decision paralysis over here. Then late one night, I mean likely after midnight, because all my really good ideas hit me during the sleep hours, I realized that since my photography business was all about Parenthood the new educational offerings needed to be as well. So I did my research on the new name, had to make sure the domain was available, and then I immediately bought it and got to work on creating the new website.
Now I don’t want to make it seem like throwing together a website is easy, it’s not, but it is something I enjoy. It took me a few days to get almost everything together so I could solicit some feedback from fellow photographers and then open up the retreat for registration. In that week I also made another big decision. One of the most annoying parts of paying for a workshop, months in advance, is there no real immediate return on your money. You likely purchased a ticket because you are excited to get started and transform your business, but nothing is available for months. So I decided to kick in group coaching calls during the 5 months prior to the retreat. Our first call is January 15th at 7pm MT so if you want to get in there is still time. There are two remaining seats available for the retreat and maybe one of them has your name on it!
If in-person isn’t your thing I do still offer the online mentorships AND I will be offering a new guidebook for creating your storytelling family photography business in a few months. If you want details, join the newsletter below and keep your eyes peeled. I am so excited for 2020.
