You may or may not have noticed some changes on the CJP website. This year I have been thinking about change a lot. Change and balance. Initially I was considering a change in pricing structure and a new investment page on the site. Then came a realization, after I had a record number of returning clients booking sessions and plans for their 2016 babies, that I really do love building relationships with my clients. I get the most joy from documenting families over time versus a single family or even newborn session. When I attended the Wildflowers workshop I started brainstorming how I could change my marketing and business plan towards those wanting to document their families over time. Before I could even implement these changes life let me know it was no longer a choice, but a necessity.
In mid-March I was hit with some health issues including vision impairment and suddenly a restructuring was required. The business, other than making sure my clients I had already booked for this time period knew the situation, was no longer my priority or concern. My doctors were most concerned about making sure I had no permanent vision loss because as a photographer my vision is important to my job, but all I could think is it is crucial to being a mother. I couldn’t help Chloe get dressed, drive her to school, or even cook dinner. Luckily I have amazing family and friends who stepped in to help me with Chloe, with sessions that could not be rescheduled, and even editing when I couldn’t see my computer screen.
Now six weeks later I am on the other side and slowly getting back to work. Baby steps. My vision is nearly back to where it was, but there have been other side effects. Because of these I have made the following changes.
So that’s it. Life threw some lemons at me and I am just trying to make myself some really awesome lemonade; I wish it could have adult spirits. I am really not even sure what kind of picture you add to a blog post like this, so let’s go with one that shows me back in action on Hair Day. That’s a true test of being on the mend and getting back to normal. Well, the new normal.
