Lifestyle Family Films. Close your eyes and imagine selling the home you brought your children to from the hospital. Those walls are filled with memories, so it is only right you give it a proper goodbye, right? Half this film was documented on their last night in this home, when the main living spaces were empty with tiny voices echoing as they played. The other half was filmed a few days prior while the house was in a state of flex with the pending sale, but still lived-in. Neither of the girls will likely have any memories of this first childhood home beyond the film I created and pictures Brooke and Chris have taken over the last few years.
I started this film with a song in my head, even thought about it while I was documenting their life and love. Music makes or breaks a film. I spend hours listening to music, thinking about music, timing music. Recently I have spent hours on a few films only to change my mind about the song when a film was 95% done and this film was a prime example. It’s that nagging 5% that keeps me up and night, unable to turn my brain off until the film is complete. While the original song was good, my uncertainty gave me pause so I held off applying the final edits for a week while I was on vacation. A few years ago I first heard the song Paper Knees and discovered The Careful Ones. I never thought I would be able to license their work for my family filmmaking, but that day has come. The family film below has Slow Dance on Broken Glass as its soundtrack. This week was the first time I listened to it, but when I did I knew it was the one. I cry making Yearbook films for my newborns all the time, but rarely for my lifestyle family films. The last 90 seconds of this film has made me cry each time I watched it. #getsometissues
Selling your house is not a requirement for contacting me for a session, but it might help you pay for it 😉 Seriously though if you watched this video and thought “I need one of those”, take the first step. It’s always the best time for lifestyle family films and if you don’t live in Colorado no worries, I travel!
