When I met June in January of 2017 the most exciting thing to do was watch her kick her legs, make noises while daddy read The Cat in the Hat, and inhale her bottle. Fast forward to April 2018, now she runs around the house, feeds herself waffles and fruit, and gets in on the storytime. 18 months in our lives doesn’t seem that long, but in the beginning, it’s everything.
Let’s talk about family filmmaking. I don’t always have the film mapped out in my head as I am in the session, but for this one I did. When we read Dada by Jimmy Fallon at the end I realized that could be the driving force behind this film. She was participating so much more than the first time we read that book a little less than a year ago. During her 15 month session, it was a joke that when I asked her where Dada was she picked up the book and asked to read it. I really hope this book and film make it into her memory box to share with her kids when she is all grown up. For me it was the book Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman. It was the first book I read by myself at the age of 2 and one I have read with Chloe many times. This is the stuff childhood memories are made of.
There is no older footage in this film, but I was inspired to make my first monochrome film. So even though this is June’s 5th film, it still feels new and different. You can see her previous films by clicking watch June grow. Does this look like something you want for your family? The first step is acknowledging what you want, the second is to submit a booking form. I am based in Lafayette, Colorado but always willing to hop on a plane.
